[edit]- সুফেদ (śuphed)
Etymology
[edit]Borrowed from Classical Persian سفید (safēd), from earlier سپید (sapēd), from Middle Persian spyt' (spēd, “white”), from Proto-Iranian *cwaytáh, from Proto-Indo-Iranian *ćwaytás, from Proto-Indo-European *ḱweytós (“bright; shine”) (compare Old Church Slavonic свѣтъ (světŭ), Old English hwīt (“white”)). Cognate with Arabic سِبِيدَاج (sibīdāj) and Ottoman Turkish اوستبج (üstübec). Doublet of শ্বেত (śśet).
