Inherited from Sanskrit শৃণোতি (śṛṇoti), from Proto-Indo-Iranian *ćr̥náwti, from Proto-Indo-European *ḱl̥néwti. Cognate with Sylheti ꠢꠥꠘꠣ (huna), Bengali শোনা (śōna), Hindustani سننا / सुनना (sunnā)
