[edit]Inherited from Ashokan Prakrit *𑀩𑀸𑀩𑁆𑀩𑀓 (*bābbaka, “father”), perhaps with influence from the unrelated Classical Persian بابا (bābā). Doublet of বাবু (babu, “child, gentleman”).[1]
