[edit]From a metathesized form of Sanskrit গৃহ (gṛha), from Proto-Indo-Iranian *gʰr̥dʰás, from Proto-Indo-European *gʰr̥dʰós. Cognate with Sylheti ꠊꠞ (gor), Bengali ঘর (ghor), Chakma 𑄊𑄧𑄢𑄴 (ghar), Hindi घर (ghar), Urdu گھر (ghar).
