[edit]From Proto-Indo-Iranian *ćuHrás (“strong”), from Proto-Indo-European *ḱewh₁- (“to be strong, to swell”). Cognate with Avestan 𐬯𐬏𐬭𐬀 (sūra), Middle Persian swl (sūr), Ancient Greek κύριος (kúrios).
