[edit]From Proto-Indo-Aryan *miśrás, from Proto-Indo-Iranian *mićrás, from Proto-Indo-European *miḱ-ró-s (“mixed, mingled”), from *meyḱ- (“to mix”). Cognate with Lithuanian mìšras (“mixed”), Latin misceō (“to mix”), Ancient Greek μῐ́γνῡμῐ (mĭ́gnūmĭ), Old English miscian (whence English mix).
