[edit]Inherited from Old Marathi 𑘤𑘰𑘽𑘠𑘜𑘹 (bāṃdhaṇe), 𑘤𑘰𑘡𑘜𑘹 (bānaṇe), from Maharastri Prakrit 𑀩𑀁𑀥𑀇 (baṃdhaï), from Sanskrit बन्धति (bándhati), from Proto-Indo-Iranian *bʰándʰati, from Proto-Indo-European *bʰéndʰ-e-ti, from *bʰendʰ- (“to tie”). Compare Hindi बाँधना (bāndhnā), Gujarati બાંધવું (bā̃dhvũ), Sindhi ٻَنڌَڻُ / ॿंधणु, Punjabi ਬੰਨ੍ਹਣਾ (bannhṇā) / بَنّھݨا (bannhṇā), Assamese বন্ধা (bondha), Sylheti ꠛꠣꠘ꠆ꠗꠣ (bandá), Sinhalese බඳිනවා (baⁿdinawā), English bind.
