Etymology
[edit]Inherited from Proto-Indo-Aryan *plu-, from Proto-Indo-Iranian *plu-, from Proto-Indo-European *plew- (“to fly, flow, run”). Cognate with English flow, float, Ancient Greek πλέω (pléō), Old Armenian լուանամ (luanam) and Russian плыть (plytʹ) ("to swim", "to float").
