    Inherited from Prakrit 𑀧𑀟𑀇 (paḍaï), from Sanskrit पत॑ति (pátati), from Proto-Indo-European *péth₂eti, from *peth₂-. Compare Nepali पर्नु (parnu, to happen), Gujarati પડવું (paḍvũ), Bengali পড়া (poṛa), Hindustani پڑنا / पड़ना (paṛnā).
