Etymology
[edit]From Proto-Indo-European *térp-ti-s ~ *tr̥p-téy-s (“satisfaction, pleasure, delight”). Cognate with Ancient Greek τέρψῐς (térpsis, “delight, pleasure”), Proto-Germanic *þurftiz. Synchronically analysable as तृप् (tṛp, “to be satisfied or pleased”, root) + -ति (-ti).
