Etymology 1
[edit]From Proto-Indo-European *tn̥tós (“stretched, extended”), from *ten- (“to stretch, extend”). Cognate with Ancient Greek τᾰτός (tatós), Latin tentus.

[edit]From Proto-Indo-European *tata-, imitative of baby talk. Compare Latin tata, Ancient Greek τατᾶ (tatâ).
