[edit]Possibly from the metathesis of Maharastri Prakrit 𑀩𑀼𑀟𑁆𑀟𑀇 (buḍḍaï, “sinks”)[1] (whence बुडणे (buḍṇe)). Compare Gujarati ડૂબવું (ḍūbvũ), Hindustani ڈُوبْنَا (ḍūbnā) / डूबना (ḍūbnā), Punjabi ਡੁੱਬਣਾ (ḍubbaṇā) / ڈُبّݨا (ḍubbṇā), Nepali डुब्नु (ḍubnu), Maithili डुबब (ḍubab) / 𑒛𑒳𑒥𑒥 (ḍubaba), Odia ଡୁବିବା (ḍubibā), Bengali ডুবা (ḍuba), Assamese ডুবা (duba).
