[edit]From Maharastri Prakrit *𑀚𑀸𑀬-𑀮𑁆𑀮-𑀅 (*jāya-lla-a), from Ashokan Prakrit 𑀚𑀸𑀢 (jāta) + Middle Indo-Aryan -𑀮𑁆𑀮- (-lla-) + -𑀓- (-ka-), from Sanskrit जात (jātá). Cognate with Marathi झाले (jhāle).
