Etymology
[edit]Inherited from Old Marathi 𑘕𑘮𑘰𑘩𑘹𑘽 (jahāleṃ), 𑘕𑘰𑘮𑘩𑘹𑘽 (jāhaleṃ),[1] from 𑘕𑘰𑘩𑘹𑘽 (jāleṃ) + *𑘁𑘮𑘩𑘹𑘽 (*āhaleṃ).[2]
- 𑘕𑘰𑘩𑘹𑘽 (jāleṃ) from Maharastri Prakrit 𑀚𑀸𑀬 (jāya) + Middle Indo-Aryan -𑀮𑁆𑀮- (-lla-) + -𑀓- (-ka-), from Sanskrit जात (jātá),[2] from Proto-Indo-Aryan *źaHtás, from Proto-Indo-Iranian *ȷ́aHtás, from Proto-Indo-European *ǵn̥h₁tós.
- *𑘁𑘮𑘩𑘹𑘽 (*āhaleṃ) is the regularly inflected perfective of the defective verb 𑘁𑘮𑘜𑘹 (āhaṇe).[2][3]
Cognate with Sindhi ڄائو / ॼाओ, Konkani जाले (jāle, perfective of जाव्चे (j̈āvce, “to happen”)), जाल्लो (jāllo, “happened, done”, adjective).
