[edit]Inherited from Sauraseni Prakrit 𑀘𑀫𑁆𑀫 (camma), from Sanskrit चर्म (carma), from Proto-Indo-Iranian *čárma, from Proto-Indo-European *(s)kérmn̥ (“skin, hide, pelt”). Cognate with Marathi चाम (cām), Gujarati ચામ (cām), Khmer ចម្ម (cam), and more distantly with Classical Persian چَرْم (čarm) and Latin corium (“skin”). Doublet of चर्म (carm), and related to चमड़ा (camṛā, “leather”) and चमगादड़ (camgādaṛ, “bat”).
