[edit]Inherited from Ashokan Prakrit *𑀕𑁄𑀤𑁆𑀤𑀻 (*goddī), borrowed from a substrate language. Compare Sanskrit क्रोड (kroḍa, “bosom”), Ashokan Prakrit *𑀕𑁄𑀟𑁆𑀟 (*goḍḍa, “knee”).
Cognate with Punjabi ਗੋਦ (god) / گود (god), Gujarati ગોદ (god), Sindhi گوڏِ / गोॾि (“fastening of a dhoti”), Nepali गोद (god).
