Inherited from Sauraseni Prakrit 𑀕𑀺𑀤𑁆𑀥 (giddha), from Sanskrit गृध्र (gṛdhra). Cognate with Gujarati ગીધ (gīdh), ગીધડું (gīdhḍũ), Marathi गिधाड (gidhāḍ), Nepali गिद्ध (giddha), Doublet of गृध्र (gŕdhra).
