Etymology
[edit]Probably from Proto-Indo-Iranian *Hr̥gʰaHy-, from Proto-Indo-European *h₁ergʰ- (“to move”). Cognate with Ancient Greek ἔρχομαι (érkhomai, “to go, come”), ὀρχέομαι (orkhéomai, “to dance, leap”); probably not related to Proto-Germanic *argaz (“unmanly, effeminate, cowardly”).
