[edit]Inherited from Sauraseni Prakrit 𑀇𑀓𑁆𑀓 (ikka) + Middle Indo-Aryan -𑀓- (-ka-), from Sanskrit एक (eka), but influenced by Northwestern Indo-Aryan, for which compare Punjabi ਇੱਕਾ (ikkā). Doublet of एक (ek, “one”). Cognate with Nepali एक्का (ekkā).
