Etymology

Unknown. Probably cognate with Bengali আগলানো (aglanō, to restrain, guard, keep watch over), Odia ଆଗୁଳିବା (āguḷibā, to restrain, lie in wait), Braj आगोटन (āgoṭan, to check, confine), the first two of which Turner derives from Sanskrit अर्गल (argala, bolt), *अर्गड (argaḍa).[1]
