[edit]From Aramaic תְּלָתַעְסַר (təlāṯaʿsar). Equivalent to ܬܠܵܬܵܐ (tlātā, “three”) + ܥܸܣܪܵܐ (ʿisrā, “ten”); compare Arabic ثَلَاثَةَ عَشَرَ (ṯalāṯata ʕašara) and Hebrew שְׁלֹשָׁה עָשָׂר (sh'loshá 'asár), Classical Syriac ܬܵܠܬܲܥܣܲܪ (tāltaˁsar).
