Etymology
[edit]Learned borrowing from Classical Syriac, from Aramaic תְּלָתַעֵסְרֶא (təlāṯaʿesrē). Equivalent to ܬܠܵܬ݂ (tlāṯ, “three”) + ܥܸܣܲܪ (ˁissar, “ten”); compare Arabic ثَلَاثَ عَشْرَةَ (ṯalāṯa ʕašrata) and Hebrew שְׁלוֹשׁ עֶשְׂרֵה (sh'lósh 'esré).
