[edit]From Aramaic תַּלְגָּא (talgā), from Proto-Semitic *ṯalg-; compare Arabic ثَلْج (ṯalj), Hebrew שֶׁלֶג (shéleg) and Akkadian 𒊭𒀠𒄖𒌝 (šalgum).
