[edit]Learned borrowing from Classical Syriac ܕܲܥܬܝܼܕ݂ (“that which is prepared”), from ܕ- (“that; which”) and ܥܬܝܼܕ݂ (“prepared (masculine)”), passive participle of the verb ܥܬܕ (“to prepare”).
