[edit]Related to Aramaic אַבָּא (ʾabbā), from Proto-Semitic *ʔabw-, also found in Classical Syriac ܒܵܒܵܐ (bābā); compare Arabic بَابَا (bābā), Hebrew אַבָּא (ába). Doublet of ܐܲܒ݂ܵܐ (aḇā)

[edit]In some dialects, the plural ܒܵܒ̈ܲܘܵܬ݂ܵܐ (bābawwāṯā) is reserved for the sense of forefathers, while the plural ܒܵܒܹ̈ܐ (bābē) is used for the sense of fathers.
