Etymology
[edit]Inherited from Proto-Turkic *yara (“wound”), perhaps a derivation from *yār- (“to split”), whence یارمق (yarmak, “to split”). Cognate with Azerbaijani yara, Bashkir яра (yara), Kazakh жара (jara), Kyrgyz жара (jara), Turkmen ýara, Uyghur يارا (yara) and Uzbek yara.
