[edit]Inherited from Prakrit 𑀔𑀻𑀭 (khīra)، from Sanskrit क्षीर (kṣīra), from Proto-Indo-Iranian *kšiHrám (“milk”). Cognate with Assamese খীৰ (khir), Bengali ক্ষীর (khir), Hindustani खीर (khīr) / کھیر (kher), Persian شیر, Sindhi کير.
