[edit]Inherited from Sauraseni Prakrit 𑀨𑀼𑀓𑁆𑀓𑀤𑀺 (phukkadi), from Sanskrit *फूत्कति (phūtkati), extended from the root फूत् (phūt) or perhaps a back-formation from फूत्कार (phūtkāra, “blowing”). Cognate with Nepali फुक्नु (phuknu), Gujarati ફૂંકવું (phū̃kvũ), Marathi फुंकणे (phuṅkṇe).
