[edit]Inherited from Old Marathi 𑘣𑘳𑘽𑘎𑘜𑘹 (phuṃkaṇe), from Maharastri Prakrit 𑀨𑀼𑀓𑁆𑀓𑀇 (phukkaï). Related to फुंकर (phuṅkar, “blowing, puff”). Cognate with Gujarati ફૂંકવું (phū̃kvũ), Hindi फूँकना (phū̃knā), Nepali फुक्नु (phuknu).
