Inherited from Middle Persian [script needed] (pʾhlwk' /⁠pahlūg⁠/), from Old Persian *parθukah, suffixed from Proto-Iranian *párcuš (“rib”). Compare Northern Kurdish parsû (“side”), Sanskrit पर्शु (parśu, “rib”), Russian пе́рси (pérsi, “bosom”).
