Etymology
[edit]Inherited from Proto-Turkic *küreš (“wrestling”), from Proto-Turkic *küreš- (“to wrestle”). Cognate with Azerbaijani güləş, Bashkir көрәш (körəş), Chuvash кӗреш (kĕreš), Kazakh күрес (küres), Kyrgyz күрөш (küröş), Turkmen göreş, Tuvan хүреш (xüreş), Uyghur كۈرەش (küresh), Uzbek kurash and Yakut күрэс (küres).
