Etymology

From Proto-Turkic *küreĺ- (to wrestle, to struggle, to fight),[1][2] from *kür (courageous, bold).[3] Cognate of Turkish güreş, Southern Altai кӱреш (küreš), and Kyrgyz күрөш (küröş).
