[edit]From Proto-Turkic *küreĺ- (“to wrestle, to struggle, to fight”),[1][2] from *kür (“courageous, bold”).[3] Cognate of Turkish güreş, Southern Altai кӱреш (küreš), and Kyrgyz күрөш (küröş).
