[edit]Inherited from Proto-Turkic *türt- (“to butter”), even though the change of meaning from to butter to to prod, goad is unclear. Cognate with Azerbaijani dürtmək, Kyrgyz түртүү (türtüü) and Uzbek turtmoq.

- (transitive) to poke, prod, jab, to push with an object such as a stick or a finger
- (transitive) to goad, prod, to prick draught animals with a long and pointed stick
- (transitive, figuratively) to incite, spur, instigate, to rouse or goad into action
