[edit]Inherited from Sauraseni Prakrit [Term?], from Sanskrit योगिन् (yogin). Compare Punjabi ਜੋਗੀ (jogī), Bengali যোগী (jōgi), Marathi जोगी (jogī). Equivalent to جوگ (jog, “lit. union [with God], monastic renunciation, asceticism”) + ـی (-ī).
