[edit]Inherited from Old Hindi था (thā), from Sauraseni Prakrit 𑀣𑀺𑀬 (thiya), from Sanskrit स्थित (sthitá), from Proto-Indo-Aryan *stʰHtás, from Proto-Indo-Iranian *stʰHtás, from Proto-Indo-European *sth₂tós. Cognate with Gujarati થયો (thayo) and Latin stātus (whence French été (“was”)). [1]
