Etymology

Cognate to Aramaic נַסִּי, Classical Syriac ܢܲܣܼܝ (nassī, “to try”) and to Ge'ez መንሱት (mänsut, “temptation”, among other senses). Doubtfully related to Ugaritic 𐎐𐎒𐎊 (nsy, “to remove”). Apparently not related to Arabic ن س ي (n-s-y, root relating to forgetting).
