[edit]From Middle High German entloufen, intloufen, from Old High German intloufan, ultimately from Proto-West Germanic *unþahlaupan. By surface analysis, אַנט־ (ant-) + לויפֿן (loyfn). Compare German entlaufen. Cognate with Dutch ontlopen, English elope.
