[edit]From զ- (z-) + *երծ- (*erc-) + -ան- (-an-). The independently unattested root *երծ- (*erc-) is usually connected with Proto-Indo-Iranian *sárȷ́ati (“to let go, dismiss, release, cast off”) and derived from Proto-Indo-European *serǵ-, with no other cognates. However, others derive the Indo-Iranian from *selǵ-, which cannot give *երծ- (*erc-). Also compare Old Georgian დახრწევა (daxrc̣eva), extended root of which should be *-ხერწ- (*-xerc̣-)/*-ჰერწ- (*-herc̣-).
