An Iranian borrowing, ultimately from Proto-Iranian *HáHtr̥š (fire). In some of the compounds confused with արտ- (art-). Doublet of այրեմ (ayrem).

Usage notes

Found only in a few compounds and never used independently. Discernible also in several wholly-borrowed terms from Iranian. Some of the compounds claimed to be inner-Armenian formations, such as ատրաշէկ (atrašēk), may also be wholly-borrowed.
