Old Armenian

[edit]

Etymology

[edit]

An inheritance from Proto-Indo-European, but the root and the mechanism of derivation are disputed. Several scenarios have been proposed:

In any case, the nasal present formation անց- (ancʻ-) +‎ -ան- (-an-) is secondary, created after the rise of the root-final affricate and its levelling throughout the paradigm.[1]
