From Common Turkic *yügür- (to run). Cognate with Shor чӱгӱрерге, Khakas чӱгӱрерге (çügürerge), Chulym чӱгӱрӓйге, Tuvan чүгүрер (çügürer), Yakut сүүр (süür); Kyrgyz жүгүрүү (jügürüü), Kazakh жүгіру (jügıru), Bashkir йүгереү (yügerew), Tatar йөгерергә (yögerergä), Uzbek yugurmoq, Uyghur يۈگۈرمەك (yügürmek), Azerbaijani yüyürmək, etc.
