From Proto-Turkic *yügür- (to run). Cognate with Chulym чӱгӱр, Northern Altai тьӱгӱр (tʹügür), Tuvan чүгүр- (çügür-), Nogai ювырув (yuvıruv), Kazakh жүгіру (jügıru), Kyrgyz жүгүрүү (jügürüü), Southern Altai јӱгӱр (ǰügür), etc.
