Etymology

From Proto-Mordvinic *śurə, inherited Proto-Finno-Ugric *śarwe. Cognate with Finnish sarvi, Eastern Mari шур (šur), Komi-Permyak сюр (śur) and Hungarian szarv. The Uralic word borrowed from Proto-Indo-Iranian *ćr̥Hwás (horn).
