[edit]Borrowed from Carpathian Rusyn судьба́ (sudʹbá) or from earlier Old Ruthenian сꙋдьба (sudʹba), from Old East Slavic сѫдьба (sǫdĭba), from Proto-Slavic *sǫdьba. Retention likely due to Ukrainian biblical influence.

[edit]Inherited from Old East Slavic судьба (sudĭba), from судити (suditi, “to judge”) + -ьба (-ĭba) (synchronically, суди́ть (sudítʹ) + -ьба (-ʹba)). Cognate with Old Church Slavonic сѫдьба (sǫdĭba).
