From при- (pri-) + dialectal тули́ть (tulítʹ, to hide), from Proto-Slavic *tuliti. Also found are вту́лка (vtúlka, plug), dialectal втули́ть (vtulítʹ, to drive (something) in), dialectal зату́лка (zatúlka, plug). Cognate with Ukrainian тули́ти (tulýty, to press, to put (against)), втули́ти (vtulýty, to put in), Belarusian тулі́ць (tulícʹ, to shelter), Church Slavonic затулити (zatuliti, to hide), Bulgarian ту́ля (túlja), Serbo-Croatian ту́лити (to extinguish) (1sg. ту̑лӣм), Slovene túliti (to squeeze) (tonal orthography) (1sg. Slovene túlim (tonal orthography)), Czech toulit (to press, to squeeze) (also tulit), Slovak túliť sa (to press oneself against), Polish tulić (to soothe), Upper Sorbian tulić (to press, to bend), Lower Sorbian tuliś (to bend; to tame; to hide).
