Reconstruction:Proto-Slavic/tuliti
Appearance
Proto-Slavic
[edit]Etymology
[edit]Probably from the l-participle *tulъ + *-iti of otherwise obsolete Proto-Balto-Slavic *táuˀtei (“to entangle, to coil”) whence (via another extension) Lithuanian taujóti (“to squash”), Latvian taũjât (“to wander”). Possibly distantly related to Sanskrit तौति (tauti, “to gain power, strength”).
Verb
[edit]*tulìti impf[1]
- to constrict, to cram, to congregate
- to contain, to enfold, to sheath (perhaps secondary from *tulъ, *tula (“quiver, envelop”) + *-iti)
Conjugation
[edit]Conjugation of *tuliti, *tuli, *tulitь (impf., -i-, s-aorist, accent paradigm ?)
