From пиллӗк (pillĕk, five) +‎ -мӗш (-mĕš, ordinal suffix), compare Bulgar [script needed] (biyelim), [script needed] (béş), [script needed] (bélinc), [script needed] (bélinci, fifth).[1]

Cognate with Khalaj bêşminci, Turkish beşinci, Uzbek beshinchi, Bashkir бишенсе (bişense) and Yakut бэһис (behis).
