[edit]Inherited from Old East Slavic ночьлѣгъ (nočĭlěgŭ), from Proto-Slavic *noťьlěgъ. By surface analysis, ночь (nočʹ, “night”) + лежа́ть (ležátʹ). Compare Ukrainian нічлі́г (ničlíh), Belarusian начле́г (načljéh), Polish nocleg, Czech nocleh, Slovak nocľah.
