[edit]From Proto-Samic *këlmë or some related form, probably from Proto-Finno-Permic *külmä, which is possibly an Indo-European borrowing.
Cognates include Northern Sami galmmas, Finnish kylmä, Komi-Zyrian кын (kyn) and Moksha кельме (keľme).
