From Proto-Turkic *yubka (thin (of flat objects)). Cognate with Bashkir йоҡа (yoqa), Kazakh жуқа (juqa), Kumyk юкъкъа (yuqqa), Southern Altai јука (ǰuka), Uzbek yupqa, Uyghur يۇپقا (yupqa, thin), Azerbaijani yuxa (gentle), etc.
